[DESIGN + ART] BALL OF LOVE® "ICONS" Dalai Lama

URNE.CH cosmicball collection" celebrates it's 20. anniversary in 2018/ 19 and publishes the first of the totally five ball of love® "icons" series. In 5 consecutive years till the "25 years URNE.CH cosmicball collection" all 5 series will be published with 5 unique examplars every year.

Meaning and background of the term "icon": The word "icon" descends from the greek "eikón" meaning „effigy“. Coventional icon pictures are the ones of cultural and holy images of the orthodox church. Most of these paintings are on wood and ecclesiastially hollwed. They carry a big meaning for the theology and spirituality of the eastern church. The purpose of the icon is to create reverence and to build an existential connection between the spectator, the pictured and God. Icons are neither art objects nor decoration in the orthodox church, but they are an essential part of the Byzantine art.

Icons of modern times: The idea and concept of the icon paintings transmitted on a moden object, with the borrowing of old elements like the gloriole creates a certain tension. Selected, outstanding personalities with a cultural status, from different eras from post modernity until the present are the new icon motives, which should underline the uniqueness of our being. Without fear of authoroty and Church and with the awarenes of the own momentariness, the ball of love "icons" series celebrates a new awareness, a contemporary, new culture and dimension of taking leave of somebody and "to remember".
